Oscar Wilde (b.1854 – d.1900), Irish poet, wit, aesthete and popular playwright in early 1890’s London. He was jailed from 1895 to 1897 for ‘gross indecency’ with men and died destitute in Paris. From the 1970’s he became an icon for the emerging gay movement.
